As a cooperative the board has broad authority and the approval process for changes is slow. On the upside, board conduct is professional and meetings stay civil. Financial reporting could be clearer for shareholders.

Cooperatives work differently from condos and HOAs: you own shares, not a unit, and the board has wide discretion. Understanding the proprietary lease and the approval workflow before renovating spared me months of back-and-forth. Treat the board as a process to navigate, not a person to argue with.
